Every year, more and more nutrition experts are inclined to believe that soups are not a must-have dish (contrary to the advice of mothers and grandmothers). Here is the opinion of Natalia Fedorenko, FoodEx nutritionist.
Is soup healthy every day?
Due to its liquid consistency, soup does not have time to be broken down by enzymes in the mouth, which complicates the work of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, liquid during meals dilutes gastric juice, which significantly impairs digestion. Much, of course, depends on the composition of the soup and on the person’s health.
We pay special attention to the broth!
Nowadays, when raising animals and birds for slaughter, various chemical additives, extracts, hormonal and antibacterial drugs are used. Accumulating in the meat, when cooked, they pass into the finished dish … Broths are very quickly absorbed by the intestines, after which the liver is put under a heavy burden to filter out a large number of toxic chemical compounds contained in the meat.
Heat treatment reduces the amount of nutrients by up to 70%!
Broth is also harmful due to its high fat content. It increases blood cholesterol, adds extra pounds and increases the risk of tumors. It is hardly possible to recommend such a dish for weight loss and health improvement …
Don’t get carried away with puree soups!
A large amount of pureed food in the diet has a negative effect on the digestive system (lazy bowel syndrome can develop) and metabolism. From time to time, you can indulge in pureed soup, but it is better to do this no more than two or three times a week.
I recommend following a few basic rules:
- do not cook soups with meat broth
- Give preference to vegetable soups
- reduce cooking time to retain as many nutrients as possible.
